Topamax is a medication that taken daily, can reduce the onset and frequency of migraines. It is also used to treatment of seizure disorders such as epilepsy.

According to the Topamaz web site, the following side effects are possible:
- Paresthesia - numbness or "pins and needles" in the arms or legs. This is the most common side effect of Topamax.
- Fatigure - tiredness is common, especially in the first 3 weeks of use.
- Taste changes.
- Weight loss - often the result of loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea.
- Concentration problems - mainly in memory recall. Often shown in the form of "forgetting the right word" or losing train of thought.
Topamax and Weight Loss
Even though Topamax can have the side effect of weight loss, it is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a weight loss medication.
In clinical tests, weight loss while using Topamax was reported in up to 16 percent of adults and 21 percent of children.
Topamax is not considered appropriate for weight loss due to the multitude of other side effects caused by the medication. As always, the best advice for weight loss is a good diet plus exercise.
